[TD="class: msgtxt"][h=2]MP Irene Ng: I do not get ANY bonus from ISEAS[/h]Posted by theonlinecitizen on November 29, 2011 32 Comments 3 ~by: Chong Ai Ling~
A TOC reader sent us a screenshot of a Facebook message of Ms Irene Ng, MP for Tampines GRC. The screenshot showed an article link from a website with the title: “GDP Bonus of 8 Months for senior civil servants”. This led to a person congratulating Ms Ng for receiving the 8 months bonus. To which Ms Ng replied, “er, a general word of advise, if I may – a good idea to always check the facts first before jumping to conclusions, esp if the source is not the most trusted.”
TOC wrote in to Ms Ng to enquire if there was any truth to this allegation. In the initial email exchanges between Ms Ng and TOC there were some miscommunications, as Ms Ng had thought that it was an unfair attempt by TOC to cast the PAP MPs in a bad light, and she asked us to check with the opposition MPs as well if they had any bonus.
TOC clarified with Ms Ng that we know that the MP allowance was the same for both PAP and opposition MPs, but that the person who forwarded the email to us claimed that Ms Ng got 8 months bonus from ISEAS (a statutory board) as she was holding a senior position in that organisation, and that as far as we knew, no opposition MPs are employed in government or related organisations. We also reminded Ms Ng that it was she who had asked the person who had posted the congratulatory message to “check the source before asking questions” and that there was no better source to check than her.
We assured Ms Ng that it was not TOC’s attempt in trying to ‘flame’ anyone, but a genuine and legitimate query to dispel the misinformation (if there were any).
Understanding the nature of our request, Ms Ng replied:
“I do not get ANY bonus from ISEAS”
