THE People's Association (PA) has appointed a veteran grassroots leader as the adviser to grassroots organisations for Bedok Reservoir-Punggol ward in Aljunied GRC.
In a statement yesterday, the PA announced that Mr Anthony Loh, 73, would fill this role with immediate effect.
Mr Lim Swee Say told The Straits Times that Mr Loh was appointed because he is committed, and has the respect and acceptance of the grassroots leaders.
Mr Loh started out as a member of the Kampong Kembangan Community Club Management Committee (CCMC) and as chairman of the Kampong Kembangan Building Fund Committee in 1989.
The PAP's branch chairmen are usually its elected candidates in that ward. Where it is not in power, the branch chairman is usually its defeated - or prospective - candidate for the ward.
