SINGAPORE — Six male youths were fined between $600 and $2,000 each for flouting safe distancing measures during the COVID-19 circuit breaker period, the Singapore Police Force said on Wednesday (22 April).

The six, aged 14 to 20, were involved with a video widely shared online which featured one of them dancing along to music and making offensive gestures and remarks against circuit breaker regulations.

One male youth in the video, who appears to wear a mask over his nose but not over his mouth, says, “The more they ask us to stay at home the more we come out, the more they fine us, the more we pay the fine, we’re staying out every second...until coronavirus spreads to whole (of) Singapore.”

The six went cycling on 16 April at about 2am and gathered at Lorong Halus Bridge, where they took a video. They shared the video among themselves and it went viral later on, said the police in a press release.

Police received reports about the video on the same day and established the identities of all six within nine hours.
