48-year-old arrested for petrol theft

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested a 48-year-old man for a series of theft of petroleum from motorcycles committed at Punggol Estate.
In Feb and Mar 2013, police received several reports of theft of petrol involving motorcycles in the vicinity of Punggol estate, said a police press statement. The man would dislodge the petrol tube connected to the petrol tank of the motorcycles to drain petrol out into a container. Thereafter, the petrol tube will be re-connected to the petrol tank of the motorcycles to avoid detection.
Though extensive enquiries and investigations, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division managed to establish the identity of the man. On May 2, 2013 at 11.40 pm, officers mounted an operation and arrested him in the vicinity of Punggol Place. He is believed to be involved in at least six other similar cases.
If found guilty, he could face a maximum of 3 years imprisonment.
Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police Keok Tong San, commended the officers for their excellent investigative work which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
