4 serial thieves arrested

The police have arrested four men aged between 23 and 32 for their suspected involvement in several cases of theft from person committed at shopping centres islandwide.
Between Oct 6 and 7, the police received several reports of unattended bags left at cafes and restaurants being stolen.
With the aid of CCTV footage, officers from Orchard Neighbourhood Centre established the identities of the suspects and arrested them on Oct 9 along Jalan Besar.
They also recovered stolen items worth about $19,000.
If found guilty of theft with common intention, the suspects will face a jail term of up to 3 years, or a fine, or both.
The police also reminds the public to:
- Be wary of suspicious persons following you;
- Avoid exposing cash, valuables, or jewellery in public areas as this might draw unnecessary attention;
- Avoid placing your wallet in back pockets. Ensure that your bag is properly secured at all times. Cross-sling it in front or clasp it firmly while shopping or walking;
- Never leave valuables unattended. Unattended valuables pose easy targets to would-be culprits;
- Keep a close watch on your belongings at all times and not to leave them unattended;
- Not be distracted by strangers creating a commotion, bumping into you or accidentally spilling something onto you; check your valuables immediately if this happens.
