SINGAPORE: Police have arrested four men aged between 24 and 30, who are suspected of being involved in a street fight at Chander Road.

On Tuesday at about 10.31pm, police were alerted that a man was carried into a grey van after being assaulted by three people at the open carpark on Chander Road.

Officers from the Central Police Division and Criminal Investigation Department investigated and reviewed CCTV footage.

They soon established the identity of the suspects and the registration number of the van.

The four suspects were arrested on Wednesday along Kang Ching Road.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the group had consumed liquor and a dispute broke out subsequently.

Police investigations into this case are still ongoing.

The case has been classified as affray.

If convicted, the men could be jailed up to one year, and fined up to S$5,000.

Commander of Central Police Division, Deputy Assistant Commissioner of Police (DAC) Daniel Tan, commended his officers for their expeditious follow-up resulting in identifying and arresting the suspects for fighting in a public place.

He also stressed that the police takes a serious view of offences disturbing the peace, especially those committed in public amenities and posing a threat to safety.

He assured that no effort will be spared in tracing and getting the offenders to face the full brunt of the law. - CNA/xq
