Police have received several reports of loanshark harassment in the vicinity of the Redhill and Henderson Road housing estates since April. The tactic used usually involved paint splashed on walls and loanshark writings. Following the reports, officers from the Clementi Police Division intensified their patrols in the area. On Monday at about 1.20 am, officers spotted four men behaving suspiciously in a car near Block 94, Henderson Road.
The officers moved in and on searching the car, found loanshark-related paraphernalia such as debtors' records, bicycle chains, padlocks and cans of paint. Several marker pens were also found in the possession of one of the suspects. The four suspects, aged 22 to 32 years, will be charged in court on Tuesday. First-time offenders found guilty of assisting in an unlicensed moneylending business can be fined up from $30,000 to $300,000 and jailed for up to four years. They can also be caned up to six strokes.
