SINGAPORE - A 38-year-old man was arrested after he illegally entered a Pasir Panjang housing unit and stole $600 worth of valuables.
On August 27 at about 4.10pm, the 36-year-old male victim discovered the crime and reported it to the police.
After a coordinated search of the area, officers spotted and arrested the suspect along Pasir Panjang Road at about 5.30am today.
A mobile phone, phone charger, Ezlink card, thumbdrive, cash amounting to about $100 and a bag were found in his possession and seized.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect is believed to have been involved in another similar case of theft in the vicinity of River Valley Road in June 2012.
The suspect will be charged in Court on August 28. If found guilty, he faces seven years in prison and a fine.
The police would like to remind the public to always ensure that their properties are properly secured.
House owners can help prevent crime such as housebreaking and theft by ensuring that their gates, doors and windows are properly secured when they leave the house or at night when the occupants are sleeping.
Installation of alarm systems have also been proven to be effective in deterring break-ins, the police said.
