3 held over loansharking

Three men were arrested early on Thursday for suspected involvement in loansharking activities, after a vigilant taxi driver alerted the cops. The cabby picked up the three men, aged between 21 and 22 years, along Hougang Avenue 8 at 2.40 am and was directed to go to Ang Mo Kio Avenue 3. As the trio alighted, the taxi driver noticed that one of them had dropped a marker pen. Suspecting that the group may be involved in illegal loansharking harassment activities, he called the police. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division immediately carried out a search of the area, based on the descriptions provided by the taxi-driver. They spotted the three suspects and arrested them. Loansharking-related paraphernalia including mobile phones, debtors' records, marker pens, a can of paint and a pair of gloves were recovered from their possession. Officers also found graffiti on the walls of a HDB block in the area. The three suspects will be charged in Court on Friday.
