29 arrested for unlawful employment, immigration offences

SINGAPORE: Twenty-nine women were arrested in a 6-hour operation at Joo Chiat that ended on early Saturday morning.
Police said enforcement checks were carried out at public entertainment outlets located along Joo Chiat Road and 29 foreigners, aged between 18 and 39, were arrested for unlawful employment and immigration offences.
Saturday's operation also involved the participation of enforcement officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force.
Police said the operation is part of ongoing police enforcement efforts to clamp down on criminal activities at entertainment outlets, and serves as a warning that those who engage in illicit activities will be dealt with in accordance to the law.
Investigations against the suspects are ongoing. - CNA/jc
