231 arrested in anti-crime operation

SINGAPORE: 231 people have been arrested for various offences in an anti-crime operation conducted by the police and other law enforcement agencies.
The operation, which involved over 150 officers, started on Tuesday and ended in the early hours of Thursday.
149 people were nabbed for unlicensed moneylending activities. They include runners and harassers. Some are suspected to be responsible for a recent spate of vehicle paint splash cases.
Raids and checks were also conducted at entertainment outlets and back-alleys in areas such as Geylang, Orchard, Clarke Quay, Selegie and Pasir Ris.
82 people were also arrested for offences which include drug violations, immigration offences, being a member of an unlawful society and vice-related cases.
Of the 231 arrested, 138 were males and 93 were females. They were aged between 15 and 69 years old.
