2 youths arrested for loanshark harassment

SINGAPORE - Two youths aged 17 years old have been arrested for suspected loansharking harassment activities.
Police was notified by a resident on Feb 5 that two teenagers were spotted scrawling loanshark-related graffiti on the wall. Officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division were promptly dispatched to the block located at Sembawang Drive and detained the two suspects at the scene.
Loanshark-related paraphernalia such as a bottle of paint, coloured marker and handphones containing suspected debtors' records were found in their possession and seized as case exhibits.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the duo are believed to have committed several loanshark harassment activities such as splashing paint and scrawling graffiti on walls of HDB blocks.
They will be charged in Court on Feb 7.
First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment can be jailed for up to 5 years, fined between $5,000 and $50,000, and given 3 to 6 strokes of the cane.
First-time offenders found guilty of assisting in carrying on the business of unlicensed moneylending may be fined between $30,000 and $300,000, jailed a maximum of 4 years and be liable to be punished with not more than 6 strokes of the cane.
