2 women arrested for suspected loanshark activities

SINGAPORE - Police have arrested two women, aged 27 and 46, believed to be involved in loansharking activities.
On Feb 6 at around 8.35pm, officers from Jurong Police Division responded to a commotion in the vicinity of Choa Chu Kang Street 52.
After interviewing the parties involved, the officers detected loanshark-related messages on the suspect's handphone.
The pair was subsequently arrested and after a search, a notepad, debtors' notes, a pen and a handphone containing debtors' information were found.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the female duo were also believed to have conducted harassment activities in the area.
First-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
