SINGAPORE - The police are carrying out investigations against two subjects for allegedly providing false information to a police officer.

On Aug 12, a man called the police, stating that he received a threatening call from another man using his daughter's mobile phone. He was asked to meet him in Woodlands for the girl's safety.

Officers from Jurong Police Division responded swiftly to the case and found the caller's daughter and her boyfriend at Woodlands Town Park.

When interviewed, the couple claimed that they were accosted by a group of unknown men who assaulted them and tied up the girl.

The discerning officers detected numerous discrepancies in their story and the two admitted they had staged the situation to persuade the caller, the girl's father, to meet them for a discussion of their relationship.

Investigations against both the subjects are on-going. Anyone who is convicted for knowingly providing false information to a public servant may face a jail term of up to 1 year, or a fine of up to $5,000, or both.
