By Koh Hui Theng
Madam Sharifah Fathma Syed Abdul Rahman with her two sons, seven-year-old Syed Amsyar Fakhri (left) and four-year-old Syed Umar Syariff. Madam Sharifah's husband, traffic police officer Syed Faizal Syed Abdullah, was killed in a road accident along the North-South Highway while riding up to Putrajaya, Malaysia, on 10 November 2012. He was part of a six-man group that was going to participate in the 1Malaysia Travel BikeWeek2012 superbike rally.
MALAYSIA - Riding up to Putrajaya last Saturday night for a superbike rally, bulk liquid trader M. Shahli, 57, noticed that the cars around him on the North-South Highway were starting to slow down.
Before he could find out why, he saw one of the cars ram into his friend, traffic police officer Syed Faizal Syed Abdullah (left), 37. The latter was riding in a convoy with him.
"Faizal tried to brake because the cars around were slowing down. But the driver of a white Perodua Myvi car didn't manage to slow down in time," said MrShahli, who was riding behind Mr Faizal.
"His car rammed into the back of Faizal's bike, a Suzuki V Strom. I saw the bike wobbling, then heard a crash.
"Faizal's bike had fallen in the middle of the road."
Mr Faizal disappeared from view.
That was the last time he saw his friend alive. MrFaizal died from his injuries later that night.
Mr Shahli told The New Paper that both of them were part of a six-man group that was supposed to ride to Malaysia on Saturday morning for the 1Malaysia Travel Bike Week 2012 superbike rally.
The group had delayed setting off as they wanted to wait for Mr Faizal to knock off work that evening.
Mr Shahli and Mr Faizal had become friends after meeting at a workshop in the middle of this year.
Mr Shahli's younger brother knew Mr Faizal when both were part of the JM Bikers group.
Added Mr Shahli: "Faizal's riding is quite okay. All of us practise safe riding and don't speed."
Mr Faizal's wife Sharifah Fathma Syed Abdul Rahman, 32, was initially against him making the trip.
The housewife was worried about their sons' condition. The boys, aged seven and four, had been circumcised last Thursday.
She was quoted in Malay newspaper Berita Harian as saying yesterday: "(I told him not to) follow the convoy. But he said he had promised his friends."
