2 S'poreans among 4 nabbed in M'sia for possessing firearms & drugs

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian police have arrested four men for possession of firearms and illicit drugs.

The suspects - two Singaporeans, a Vietnamese and a Chinese national - were found with weapons such as a grenade and pistol, as well as close to US$32,000 worth of drugs.

Malaysian police conducted a drug raid on Monday, following public tip-offs at about 430pm at a condominium outside Kuala Lumpur in Petaling Jaya.

However, what they did not expect to find was a cache of firearms including a grenade, a handgun with several rounds of bullets, a machete and several knives.

According to the district police chief, who conducted the raid along with the narcotics team, when they broke into the house they found the four men to be rather dazed, believed to be under the influence of drugs.

Also seized in the house were about US$30,000 worth of illicit drugs, mainly ketamine and ecstasy pills.

It's unclear what the weapons were for, and the police refused to speculate.

Sources say that the four men are also held and being investigated in connection with several break-ins in and around Kuala Lumpur.

Of the two cars that were seized, one belongs to the Singaporean man and is registered in Singapore.

Drug trafficking and possession of firearms are serious offences in Malaysia.

If found guilty, the men could be sentenced to death.

They have been remanded for seven days.
