2 men arrested for separate cases of loan sharking activities

SINGAPORE - Two men have been arrested for their suspected involvement in loan sharking activities, the police said on Friday (Jan 8).
The first, a 28-year-old, was nabbed along Bukit Batok Street 32 on Friday, after the police received a report of loan shark harassment on Dec 29 last year and found that loan shark graffiti had been scrawled on the wall of a HDB lift lobby in Jurong West.
A mobile phone, clothes and a motorcycle helmet were seized upon his arrest. The man is believed to have carried out similar acts in Yishun, Hougang and Jurong West.
In the second case, the police received a report on Friday of loan shark harassment, where paint had been splashed on doors and graffiti drawn on walls at HDB blocks in Woodlands.
With the help of images from police cameras, officers arrested a 34-year-old suspect at Woodlands Drive 50 on the same day.
A haversack, a marker pen, a mobile phone and three tins of paint were seized. He is believed to have carried out similar acts in Bukit Panjang, Woodlands, Bukit Batok and Choa Chu Kang.
If convicted of loan shark harassment, first-time offenders face up to five years' jail, up to six strokes of the cane and a fine ranging from $5,000 to $50,000.
