2 loanshark syndicates busted

Police seized cash totalling more than $26,000, as well as mobile phones, laptops, ATM cards, electronic storage devices and other documents such as bank transaction slips, passbooks and written records.
TWO loanshark syndicates were busted in two successive islandwide raids led by the Criminal Investigation Department and the police. A total of 23 people, including the two masterminds of the syndicates, were arrested in the raids conducted on Wednesday. Police believed that the syndicates have given out loans to more than 1500 debtors.
The syndicate members were caught in HDB estates and private condominium residences in 18 areas across the island, including areas such as Orchard Road, Woodlands, Ang Mo Kio, Tampines, Bishan and Pasir Ris. The members ranged between 17 and 63 in age, and comprised both males and females. Police seized cash totalling more than $26,000, as well as mobile phones, laptops, ATM cards, electronic storage devices and other documents such as bank transaction slips, passbooks and written records.
