Wednesday, Sep 16, 2015
SINGAPORE - Two men aged 23 and 28 have been arrested for their suspected involvement in loansharking activities, the police said in a statement today.
They were acting on a report that loanshark graffiti had been scrawled on the wall of a residential unit in Bedok North. Following extensive ground enquiries, they were able to establish the identities of the suspects and had them arrested at Bedok Reservoir and Tanglin Halt yesterday.
The police added that the suspects are believed to be involved in several acts of harassment, by splashing paints and affixing debtor notes on the debtor's unit in Bedok and Bukit Panjang housing estates.
They will be charged in court tomorrow. First-time offenders found guilty of harassment on behalf of an unlicensed moneylender face a jail term of up to five years, a fine of between $5,000 and $50,000, and up to six strokes of the cane.
