2 arrested for loansharking activities

SINGAPORE - Two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested for suspected involvement in loansharking activities.
On Jan 12 at about 6.40 am, through follow-up investigations, officers arrested the 22-year-old suspect near Lorong 1 Toa Payoh.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the suspect is believed to have committed loanshark harassment. A mobile phone containing loanshark-related messages was seized for investigations.
Through further investigations, the 24-year-old suspect was arrested on Jan 13 at about 11am near Telok Blangah Heights. Preliminary investigations revealed that he had provided the locations to the 22-year-old man to carry out the harassment. A mobile phone was also seized for investigations.
The 22-year-old will be charged for loanshark harassment, while investigations against the 24-year-old are on-going.
Under the Moneylenders Act (Revised Edition 2010), first-time offenders found guilty of loanshark harassment shall be fined between $5,000 and $50,000 with mandatory imprisonment of up to five years and mandatory caning of up to six strokes.
