SINGAPORE: Police arrested 182 suspects in a five-day anti-loansharking operation that ended on Friday (15 Aug). The suspects are between 16 and 77 years old. One hundred and twenty-six are men and 56 are women.
Police said on Saturday that early investigations found that 165 suspects are believed to have opened bank accounts and given their Automated Teller Machine cards and Personal Identification Number to the loan sharks for their activities. Sixteen suspects are believed to be involved in activities such as harassment or acting as runners for loan sharks.
One suspect allegedly gave false contact information when obtaining loans from loan sharks and is being investigated for failing to report the change of address. Investigations against all the suspects are ongoing.
