18 suspects arrested for operating, gaming in illegal gambling den
SINGAPORE: 18 suspects have been arrested for assisting in operating and gaming in an illegal gambling den in Geylang.
Officers from the Police Force and Immigration and Checkpoints Authority raided the shophouse along Geylang Road on Wednesday night. Two shophouse units had masqueraded as an association.
The male and female suspects were aged between 35 and 78.
Police said two of the suspects, aged 58 and 67, were assisting in operating the illegal gambling den. The rest were gambling den patrons.
Six mahjong tables and six sets of mahjong tiles were seized.
12 suspects will be charged in court on Friday. Investigations against the remaining six suspects are on-going. - CNA/ac
