18,000 CCTVs installed at HDB blocks since mid-2012

SINGAPORE: About 18,000 police cameras have been installed at 3,300 Housing and Development Board (HDB) blocks and multi-storey car parks islandwide since May 2012 to prevent and detect crime, Second Minister for Home Affairs S Iswaran said in Parliament on Tuesday (Aug 5).
Camera installation at the remaining HDB blocks and car parks is on track to be completed by 2016, he said, adding that residents have welcomed the initiative.
A variety of factors are considered in the selection of blocks and installation schedule, such as crime trends in the neighbourhood, community feedback and the local town council's recommendations, he said. - CNA/cy
