A 17-year-old girl has been arrested by the Singapore Police Force for suspected involvement in loan shark activities.

She is believed to have assisted loan sharks by distributing flyers and name cards offering financial services by an unregistered moneylending company.

The girl was arrested on Nov 20 in the vicinity of Compassvale Lane after follow-up investigations by officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division.

Stacks of flyers and name cards were seized as case exhibits.

Investigations against the suspect are ongoing.

Under the Moneylenders Act 2010 (Revised Edition), those found guilty of assisting an unlicensed moneylender can be fined between $30,000 and $300,000, jailed up to four years and caned up to six strokes.

Acting Commander of Ang Mo Kio Police Division, Superintendent Chua Chuan Seng, commended his officers for their efforts in curbing loan shark activities.

What you and Rogue Trader said is very true. The media are awash with news of teenagers, school children being arrested for assisting loan sharks. That's what our sinkee police are only good for. I have yet to come across a news report that a big loan shark had been nabbed.
