KLANG - A 16-year-old student claimed trial at a magistrate's court here to a charge of raping his 10-year-old half-sister.
The boy, who appeared unperturbed as the charge was read out to him, allegedly raped the girl in a room at a house in Taman Suria Pendamar, Pandamaran here, in November 2011. He faces a jail term of between six and 20 years and can be whipped if convicted.
Both the accused and victim shared the same father.
DPP Shahrul Ekhsan Hasim said the prosecution did not offer bail as the accused could harass the victim. Counsel Farah Idayu Nusi, who represented the accused, objected to this.
Both the mothers of the accused and victim were present in court and answered questions from the magistrate.
The victim's 32-year-old mother, who divorced the girl's father in 2007, said her daughter was currently in hospital.
"When the incident happened, she was staying at her father's place. She has returned to stay with me since May last year," she said.
Magistrate Maslina Mohamed granted bail at RM6,000 with one surety on condition that the accused must be barred from going anywhere near the victim.
The girl's mother told reporters that she lodged a police report on June 30 after being notified by her elder daughter (from a different marriage) that the victim had been telling her school friend about her half-brother's nightly visits to her room.
The case is set for mention on Aug 22.
