Girl found murdered at home in Tampines
SINGAPORE: A 16-year-old girl was found dead in her home at Tampines Street 82 on Thursday afternoon.
It is understood there were two knife wounds on the front of her torso.
A 28-year-old woman has been arrested in connection to the case. She is believed to be the family’s maid, who has been working for the family for less than a year.
According to a neighbour, the girl's parents returned to their 10th-storey flat at around 12.30pm and found their daughter, a student at Tanjong Katong Girls' School, lying on the floor and their Indonesian domestic helper sitting in a daze. They then sought help from a friend who lived in the same block.
Their friend and his Indonesian maid rushed to help the girl but she was already dead. When they tried to ask the maid what happened, she just kept quiet and stared into space.
Neighbours said the maid had shown signs of distress as early as a year ago. She was reportedly suicidal and told another domestic helper living in the block that she wanted to jump.
Police said in a statement that they received a call at 12.57pm for assistance at 856B Tampines Street 82.
“Upon arrival, a 16-year-old was lying motionless in the said unit and was pronounced dead by paramedics,” said the police statement.
The girl’s home and those of her immediate neighbours were cordoned off until about 7pm.
Police have classified the case as murder, and investigations are ongoing.
