The PAP-controlled media has launched a massive propaganda drive to salvage the battered image of PAP MP-elect for Marine Parade GRC Tin Pei Ling whose victory in the election held last Saturday sparked a public backlash.
A Facebook group calling for the removal of Ms Tin from parliament has garnered more than 60,000 搇ikes?in less than three days, an indication of the widespread discontent among young Singaporeans at her candidacy and subsequently election as MP.
The PAP team in Marine Parade GRC helmed by Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong polled only 56.5 percent of the valid votes, a poor result which SM Goh attributed to the 揟in Pei Ling?effect. However, Ms Tin抯 share of votes in her ward of MacPherson was not revealed.
Immediately after Ms TIn抯 election, the PAP mouthpiece The New PAPer (TNP) published a two-page interview with Ms Tin to promote her, followed by another article in TODAY and Channel News Asia on her first day of work.
Both Channels 8 and U devoted almost 5 minutes of precious air-time on Tin Pei Ling抯 first Meet-the-People session which lasted till 1am in the morning to show how 慶aring?and 慶ommitted?she is to MacPherson residents.
At the same time, Ms Tin抯 alleged breaching of the election laws on 慍ooling off?day is quietly swept under the carpet as if nothing has happened.
Going by Ms Tin抯 nonchalant demeanour, it appears that she may already be informed of the outcome of the 搃nvestigations?against her if any take place at all.
Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong claimed before the election that he will 搇isten?to Singaporeans and he has put his words into 揳ction?by 搊ffering?Tin Pei Ling to us for the next 5 years.
Given the forgetful nature of Singaporeans, it is likely that most will not be able to recall Ms Tin in five years?time just like how controversial PAP MP Lee Bee Wah was forgotten quickly as well.
