SINGAPORE sunk deeper into deflationary territory last month, with the consumer price index (CPI) dropping 0.8 per cent year-on-year.
The greater-than-expected dip in prices comes after a 0.4 per cent fall in September and marks the seventh consecutive month of year-on-year declines.
October's fall is being put down to reduced housing costs, which are 4.7 per cent lower than the same month last year due to cheaper electricity and gas tariffs, as well as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The category termed 'recreation and others' measuring prices paid in restaurants, movie theatres and other entertainment venues, also registered a 1.9 per cent fall compared to October last year.
Month-on-month CPI, however, is showing a rise - in October it was 0.6 per cent ahead of September. The hike is blamed on higher costs of housing, food, recreation and others.
Housing costs recorded the largest increase - 1.9 per cent - due to higher electricity tariffs, service and conservancy charges (S&CC), since rebates for the latter were awarded in September but not October.

I believe. Salary deflation by 10~30%. Others like properties/foods/transports inflation by 10%.
