SINGAPORE: 14 people have been arrested on suspicion of being part of an organised crime group involved in match-fixing activities.

The 12 men and two women are aged between 38 and 60 years.

They are being investigated for offences related to match-fixing activities and for their involvement in organised crime activities.

Police confirm that the suspected leader and several other individuals, who are the subject of ongoing investigations in other jurisdictions for match-fixing activities, were among those arrested.

Five of those arrested, including the suspected leader, are being further detained pending further investigations.

The remaining nine individuals will be released on police bail.

Police said Singapore is committed to eradicating match-fixing as a transnational crime and protecting the integrity of the sport.

They said all cases will be pursued vigorously with a view to bringing perpetrators to justice. - CNA/nd
