POLICE arrested 138 people for various crimes in Geylang in a 13-hour multi-agency operation that ended yesterday morning - the second such crackdown in less than three days.
The crimes included gang-related activities, immigration offences, illegal employment, peddling of contraband cigarettes and vice-related activities.
The arrests were made at various locations in Geylang, including entertainment outlets, back lanes, lodging houses and along the roads.
More than 150 officers from the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the Central Narcotics Bureau, the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority and the Singapore Customs took part in the raid.
It was led by the SPF's Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The first operation that ended last Friday morning, which was also led by the CID, involved more than 200 officers from the four agencies.
That operation nabbed 108 people who had been involved in illegal gambling activities, secret societies, peddling contraband cigarettes, vice-related activities, trafficking, drug-related offences, and working without a valid work permit.
The arrests were made at entertainment outlets, back lanes, lodging houses, and along the roads in Geylang and Joo Chiat and forested areas in Woodlands.
The CID's director, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police Ng Boon Gay, said: 'We will not tolerate illicit activities on our streets.'
