12 suspects nabbed in illegal gambling den bust

SINGAPORE : Police have busted an illegal gambling den at an industrial unit at Defu Lane where they arrested 10 men and two women, aged between 37 and 52 years old.
Police said in Saturday's four-hour operation, officers from Ang Mo Kio Police Division seized 15 modified computers, five modified jackpot machines and cash amounting to about $650 from the unit.
Police said one of the suspects, a 40-year-old man, had assisted to manage the place while the remaining suspects were believed to be patrons of the gambling den.
Police added that any person who games in a common gaming house shall be guilty of an offence under Section 7 of the Common Gaming Houses Act, and shall be liable on conviction to a fine not exceeding $5,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or to both.
Any person found guilty of an offence of assisting in the management of a place to be used as a common gaming house under Section 4(1)(c) of the Common Gaming Houses Act, shall be liable on conviction to a fine of not less than $5,000 and not more than $50,000 and shall also be punished with imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years.
