An 11-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy have been charged with aggravated battery after the pair brutally tortured their 5-year-old cousin, who died. County Coroner Scott Hahn confirmed the death of Marie Sadlyne B. Pierre, a Haitian national, has been ruled a homicide.
Marie’s two cousins told police some of the torture sessions were ordered by their older sister, Charlene Tabb, 29, who with her 53-year-old husband, Marcus, faces a charge of neglect of a dependent causing death.
The cousins attacked the girl with pliers, a hammer, a leather belt and screwdrivers, among other items. Police said the victim's body had more than 80 marks or injuries, including open sores and 'odd markings' on both her nipples, which appeared to have been pinched with pliers.
The 2 minors revealed that the 5-year-old was repeatedly punished for ‘bad behavior,’ such as vomiting, urinating on the floor and ‘smarting off.’
Police Chief Steve Stewart has called it ‘one of the most horrific cases’ he has seen in 28 years of police work.
