More than 100 suspected drug offenders have been nabbed in islandwide raids this week.

The operations by the Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) and Singapore Police Force covered Beach Road, Bedok North, Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang, Circuit Road, Geylang, Jalan Kayu, Pasir Ris, Woodlands and Yishun.

A total of 104 suspected drug offenders were arrested, and drugs worth more than S$70,000 were seized, the CNB said yesterday.

These included about 270g of ketamine, 150g of Ice, 30g of heroin, 2,500 Erimin-5 tablets, 290 ecstasy tablets and a small amount of cannabis.

A 47-year-old Singaporean man suspected of trafficking drugs was the target of one particular operation.

He was arrested in the vicinity of Toh Guan Road. Drugs with an estimated street value of more than S$58,000, as well as S$12,000 in cash, were also seized.

Among them were 260g of ketamine, 115g of Ice, 2,472 Erimin-5 tablets, 265 ecstasy tablets, and a small amount of cannabis.

The suspect is still being investigated for drug trafficking. If convicted, he could face a minimum of five years' imprisonment and five strokes of the cane.

"As the regional drug situation remains unfavourable with a potential spillover into Singapore, CNB will continue to put pressure against such street-level demand and supply of illicit drugs," said CNB director Ng Ser Song.

"Singapore adopts a zero-tolerance approach towards illicit drugs and this is a strong signal to all drug offenders that CNB will not tolerate such drug activities."
