KOTA KINABALU - Ten people, including a moneychanger, have been detained to assist in investigations into the armed robbery at businessman Datuk Joseph Ambrose Lee's house.

Nine of them, including a woman, were believed to be involved in a series of house break-ins around the city.

Kota Kinabalu city police chief Asst Comm Jauteh Dikun said that the money changer was detained after he was found with SG$10,000 (RM25,203) which had been reported missing from Lee's safe.

"The nine others aged between 22 and 45 were picked up separately from Tuaran and Penampang between July 16 and 24," he said.

"Following the arrests, police recovered numerous items believed to be stolen from previous break-ins, including foreign currencies, a homemade gun, two laptops, seven watches, three mini iPads, four cellphones, a saxophone and a Honda car with a combined value of RM400,00," ACP Jauteh said.

He said the nine had been remanded for gang-robbery while the moneychanger had been detained to facilitate investigations into the concealment of stolen property.

On July 16, the gang had forcibly entered Lee's house after tying up the snoozing security guard. They then stole items and cash of different currencies worth about RM300,000.
