SINGAPORE: A Singapore Police Force K-9 officer and a sniffer dog helped uncover 1.93 kilograms of heroin which one man was allegedly trying to smuggle past Woodlands Checkpoint on Wednesday (Sep 3).

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said in a news release that the officer stopped a Malaysian man at the motorcycle lane of Woodlands Checkpoint. With the help of the dog, he discovered a bundle of drugs hidden in the back seat compartment of the vehicle. The man had also hidden drugs in his groin area.

CNB officers at the checkpoint conducted a further search and more drugs were found hidden on the motorcycle and on the Malaysian suspect.

In total, four bundles of heroin with a street value of more than S$135,000 were seized. CNB says the drugs could feed the addiction of 920 abusers for a week. The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and investigations are ongoing. If convicted, he may face the death penalty. - CNA/kk
