THE increase in childcare fees at our centre is 17 per cent more and not 38 per cent more as Mrs Cheryl Lye-Chee wrote in her letter last Friday ("Caught in a bind over childcare fees").
The Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) had notified parents in advance about the increase in a letter. In the letter, we had stated the reason for the increase.
We had met Mrs Cheryl Lye-Chee to address her concern. During our meeting, we had reiterated that due to the increase in operational costs, especially in the recruitment of trained and qualified childcare professionals, there was a need for the increase so that these professionals could provide the children with quality programmes. This is in line with the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports requirement for childcare centres to recruit trained and qualified teachers.
As an association, YWCA will not deprive any child of an education because of his family's financial situation. Families that are eligible for financial support can approach their respective childcare centre for assistance.
