who would have known that cheap road side food like hokkien prawn noodles, wanton noodles, oyster omelet, char kwey teow, mee goreng, goreng pisang, and even roti prata had become something so close to our hearts... 民以食为天, 国以家为本。

gone are the days where you see the road side hawkers running at the sight of the 地牛... the food prepared were slightly dirty but we all survived, may sometimes chance upon the rice worm in the nasi lemak but it's alright.

if Dick was right, are we all the Mad Chinaman? :*::*::*:

And who would have guessed that one day, chai tow kueh would cost $10 and have XO attached to it (at least in the mind of one minister).

When I was still staying with my Ah Ma in Macpherson back in the early 80s, there was a lady who used to go around the neighbourhood in her motorbike selling Chinese Rojak to the residents there.. I used to follow my auntie to buy a packet of Rojak from her.. Can't remember how much it cost back then.. Then when I moved to Tampines, there would be a Malay Uncle with only one arm cycling the area in the afternoon selling hot crispy curry puffs for less than a $1... Don't know if he's still around now.. It has been many years since I last saw him in Tampines cycling with his trusted bicycle...
