A man wearing a Spider-Man mask to hide his identity has been given a record reward by the authorities in Guangdong province in southern China to help bust a drug trafficking case, according to a newspaper report.
The man was given 450,000 yuan (HK$530,000) by the province’s public security department, the New Express reported.
The trafficking case involved the authorities in Foshan, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Dongguan, the report said.
Twenty suspects were arrested and three drug-making factories discovered, producing about 630kg of narcotics. About 600kg of raw materials to make drugs was found.
The report did not give details of the information the man gave the police.
The investigation began when a courier company in Foshan received a package on December 29 last year with a request for it to be sent to Malaysia.
The package was filled with fake watches and staff found two small bags of drugs hidden inside.
More drugs, methamphetamine and ecstasy, were later found in other packages at the courier firm.
Five people from Hong Kong were arrested in Guangdong for suspected drug trafficking.
The narcotics had been packed in watch boxes in Shenzhen and sent to the courier firm to be shipped out to Malaysia.
Police arrested more suspects in Panyu, Shenzhen and Dongguan earlier this month and busted a drug warehouse containing 150 kg of methamphetamine.
