A new “good conduct” condition for Permanent Residents (PRs) in Singapore will be introduced if proposed amendments to the Immigration Act are approved.

According to a Ministry of Home Affairs’ (MHA) statement, the good conduct condition for PRs allows the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to cancel the PR’s re-entry permit (PER) if he “contravenes any law” or is “involved in any activity which threatens a breach of peace or is prejudicial to public order”.

If the PR travels out of Singapore or remains outside of Singapore without a valid REP, he will lose his PR status.

This amendment also gives the ICA the ability to “impose, vary, or set additional conditions for the validity of the REP”.

The other amendments proposed include:
1. Criminalising marriages of convenience to obtain an immigration facility (e.g. entry visa, permanent residency, long-term pass etc),
2. Criminalising the manufacture, trafficking and possession of paraphernalia for immigration forgeries, and
3. Allowing the ICA to obtain passenger/crew information on inbound persons prior to their arrival.

MHA introduced the amendment bill in Parliament on Monday, in order to “strengthen Singapore’s border security” and “facilitate the legal entry of bona fide foreigners into our country while keeping out undesirable persons, goods and conveyances.”

The Immigration Act regulates immigration facilities as well as the entry, stay, and exit of all foreigners. The last major amendment to the Act was in 2004.

PR boys will purposely commit the mistake to have their PR revoke so that can Siam NS...

They could have just stayed in United States where there is freedom of speech and Jessica Alba

Good La, make these PRs carry a 'conduct card' wherever they goes; Like in our schooL days when the disipLinary

Redneck Americans will have a hard adapting to the judicial system here. Afterall, they are allowed three strikes in U.S.

Why do they need a new law

This is Spore where the authorities can do whatever they like:o

They should hold whomever is responsible for this, allowing a deluge of foreigners into SINgapore, MOM ICA policies!! We are not against Foreigners coming to SINgapore to work or look for work, Malaysians have traditionally done that & many can be seen in the government as well. What we are up on arms is, they have not protected the locals right to jobs, never mind the mantras SINgaporeans are fussy etc.. they have the right to be fussy also, for they have a lot of debts to pay.

The new regulation is a long time coming, had not the opposition won in Hougang & taken a GRC, these stiffing policies of the government, would have continued, for they is no one to stop them check them or even admonish them, when a wrong is a wrong.

We must have a SINgaporean first enshrine in our hiring, not bringing in cheap labours to depressed the local wages, which cannot be helped for it has to be high, taking into account of cost of living, Inflation & paying for an expensive government.

This has been a long time coming...

In the USA (and also Australia), such cheap labour will not find job. However, in sinkapore they will be assisted by the garberment to take over jobs from Singaporeans. See the difference.
