Joanne Peh protests ‘misleading’ headline<cite class="byline vcard" style="font-style: normal; font-weight: inherit; color: rgb(125, 125, 125); font-size: 11px; display: block; font-family: arial; vertical-align: middle; ">| SingaporeScene

Netizens are quick to hit out at Joanne Peh after
a misleading headline on the cover of Her World’s latest

Local celebrity
Joanne Peh is in the spotlight again after appearing on the cover of the August 2011 issue of Her World, complete with the accompanying headline — "White Men are Bigger and Better".

In online local fora such as fuckwarezone.com,netizens have lambasted the 28-year-old actress, mistaking her as the 'local icon' behind the line.

A check with the editorial content of the magazine revealed the 'icon' to be Barbarella, one of Singapore's beloved comic personas from Channel 5's comedy series The Noose, played by local TV star Michelle Chong.

Commenting on her Weibo account on 23 July, Peh said in Chinese, "The latest edition is out! This issue celebrates the birth of Singapore. The headline tends to mislead readers though. I feel it's inappropriate, but the editorial direction of the magazine is not for me to decide."

She also added, "Hopefully everyone will read the article in it before making any judgment."

Meanwhile, at a lower part of the magazine cover, Peh is quoted as saying, "I'm a kiasu, complaining, Singlish-spewing shopaholic."

This is not the first instance where news of Peh has caused a stir online. Earlier in June, the actress and her actor-deejay boyfriend Bobby Tonelli, 36, complained of bad service after a "bizarre experience" at popular restaurant chain Nando's.
