MOM's Tan Chuan-Jin Go Through the Motion...

Confuseous

or is he plain naive?

The Ministry of Manpower will be issuing a warning to an employment agency that advertised vacancies only for permanent residents and employment pass holders, said Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin.
(And what are the penalties if they flout the rules again?

Writing on his Facebook page, Brigadier-General (NS) Tan said he received information about this recruitment agency through someone who wrote in to him online. The MOM should be the party monitoring the situation and not members of the public. There is still this 'grassroot' mentality among the MIW, including newbies like this soldier boy.

Said BG (NS) Tan, "We have had a 'chat' with the recruitment agency and they have immediately remedied the discriminatory practice."(What "practice" is he talking about? The "practice" of including incriminating words or the practice of hiring all and sundry based on merit?)

In his post, he also reminded employers and recruiters not to lose sight of "the need for fair play when it comes to hiring and the need to hire on merit."This statement confirms that solder boys who have not been exposed to the real world, when "promoted" to be mini-stars have zero sense of what makes the world go round. The deletion of the offending words will NOT increase the number of Singaporeans being hired. Locals can write hundreds of letters and not get called up for interviews because of their CPF and NS obligations. Dear Mr Tan, it is all about economics on the part of the employers and all about policies on the part of the government, of which you are part).

"We also recognise that building progressive and fair workplaces that seek to engage local workers will attract more locals to join them," he added.Quite frankly, I don't even know what he is trying to say. Just another of those throwaway lines to sound clever and smart.

According to TODAYonline, a check on BG (NS) Tan's Facebook page showed that a netizen had alerted him to a recruitment advertisement from Antal International last Thursday.

In his latest note, BG (NS) Tan also highlighted that a few key themes remain, including "too many FTs (foreign talents) and FWs (foreign workers), fairness and opportunities for our own Singaporeans, bringing in the right FTs, more information-sharing, challenges faced by local employers."

He added that the ministry was aware of the need to "tighten foreign workforce inflow", which they have already done so,(Maybe some real solid examples will be useful, Sir!) and that they will continue to keep a close watch on how these measures work.(And while Mr Tan is at it, he may wish to share the KPIs to indicate whether the measures are working although sharing just the "measures" will be good enough to start with).

Other than "warning", is MOM following through by monitoring the hiring process of this position to ensure that Singaporeans are not discriminated anyway? If not then the warning got fuck use? MOM please clarify.

Same old word WAYANG only!!! They have to pass a law on it lah. If not every company can wayangingly open interviews for everyone then, in the end chose a FTrash over local. Talk is cheap man, esp words coming from a MIW!!!

Aiyah BG tan, a warning to these employment agencies will only be a sissy slap on the wrist for them...

You think these bloody agencies will give a hoot about these warnings.. The people running these employment agencies will not lose sleep about the Govt's feeble warnings.. These scumbags will still seek underhand ways to recruit foreign workers..

If you really mean business then close down these agencies in the future if they flout MOM warnings.

I would think ICA has to stop giving out the PRs n EPs like toilet papers. If less toilet papers are given out, then sg co will have to employe more sgreans. If not, i am sure the companies will find ways to go round the MOM rules.

And they can use the toilet paper to pass motion instead of going through the motion.

Is BG Tan ammo or CBRE trained? If so, he might consider a lucrative business in removing ordnance from private properties.
