RWS to enhance maintenance of air-conditioning system after breakdown

SINGAPORE - Now that it has fixed the fault in its air conditioning system, Resorts World Sentosa (RWS) will look at installing additional back-ups and enhancing maintenance through an early warning system with more monitoring sensors.

The review of its system comes after RWS took five days to resolve the motor breakdown in its chilling units.:*:

Portable chillers had to be rolled out Monday to tenants to keep visitors cool, with some establishments still using them yesterday afternoon. The units were eventually removed, although it may take a little longer for some areas to be cooled to what the integrated resort calls a "comfortable ambient temperature", given the hot weather.

At two of the outlets MediaCorp visited, staff said the temperatures in their premises were still higher than normal.

All shows have also resumed, including RWS' resident show "Voyage de la Vie", which had to be cancelled twice this week. Theme park Universal Studios Singapore will also revert to its extended operating hours of 10am to 9pm.

More than 100 RWS staff were deployed yesterday to ensure things were back to normal. RWS spokesperson Clement Ng said: "We deployed our facilities team to check the temperatures and the air-conditioned places within the resort. We made sure the temperatures are all below 24 degree Celsius."

Individual tenants can, however, set the temperature in their premises according to their different needs, he added.

While businesses have been affected, the impact on their bottom-lines is unclear.

Big Easy manager Rowena Cecilio said about five to six customers had walked out of the restaurant on Monday because of the heat, but business has been unaffected since the portable chillers were in place. She added that RWS had been quick to provide assistance but was concerned about whether the chiller units will impact electricity bills.

RWS said it would listen to feedback from tenants and deal with any issues on a case-by-case basis
