THE massive turnout at the Workers' Party's Hougang rally on Thursday night was 'not unusual by any stretch of the imagination,' said Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam on Friday.
Speaking to reporters after an early morning walkabout in Nee Soon South with other People's Action Party MPs from the Nee Soon GRC, he said that opposition rallies attracted crowds of such size in previous elections as well.
Thursday's WP rally, its first for this election, saw an estimated turnout of 15,000 people.
Asked why the PAP rallies fail to attract crowds of a similar size, he said that 'the reasons have been given many times'.
'What the PAP stands for, our track record, what we're going to do, it's all very clear. At the same time, there isn't too much fun and entertainment at PAP rallies either,' said Mr Shanmugam.
He welcomed the attention opposition parties are receiving at their rallies, saying: 'I think people are curious as to what they propose, what they want to do, and people want to listen, which is a good thing.'

previously PAP formed gahmen on nomination day, people 'sian-ed' and lost interest in GE after nomination day. this time with 82/87 fight it is a different story when 95% of voters get their chances to cast their votes.

Since some neber get a chance to votes in the past 50 years and this time going to rallies means to voters and the stakes are high for good attendances. Bet you there will be a big swing to the Oppos this time.

Prepare to form a new ghament lah! and LKY will still be hired as MM to the new gahmen on contract term .. hehe

He didn't see that people were cheering at Worker's Party and not standing there just to be entertained. He must be jealous.

15,000 only? Blind or blur or retard? Use old National Stadium fullhouse crowd for a quick visual comparison and estimate. Add on those on HDB balcony, easily 30,000. One whole SMC size gathered there.

He wrong meh? It looks exactly like the 2006 crowd. Remember what happened in 06? He's not wrong to say it's not unusual. What we need to see is the result at the end of the day. 7th May, Shanmugan will know if it's unusual or not

Here is 06 crowd

Singaporeans love attending these rallies because they are cheaper than going to the cinema. In fact, it's free.

Your post conjures up an image of PAP wielding power out of a water gun. Bad from a military defence point of view. But thanks for that minuscule touch of humour.

its not unusual that his kind like to talk a lot of cock. Just like its not usual for a kid to get chopped up in downtown east... WTF. Everything is not unusual except your PAP pay and pension.

Kasiviswanathan Shanmugam... The supporters in PAP rally less than the alphabets in his name also nothing unusual.:oIo:

Don't let your hopes go up to much. Singaporeans are more intelligent than what you people give them credit for. Will they believe a couple of social workers and small time businessmen can improve their lives? Or contribute anything to parliamentary proceedings? Dream on.

YOu can't fault the size of the crowds because the size of the place has not changed. Give WP a bigger place like national stadium, you will be in for a shock.
