SINGAPORE: The National Solidarity Party (NSP) has dropped its plan to contest the new Moulmein-Kallang GRC in the upcoming General Election, to give way to the Workers' Party and avoid a three-cornered fight.

The party said this is a "painful decision".

The original team slated for Moulmein-Kallang GRC will move to Chua Chu Kang GRC, led by NSP President Sebastian Teo.

The party had earlier spelt out its interest in contesting Moulmein-Kallang GRC, which was carved out from the now-defunct Jalan Besar GRC.

Mr Teo had highlighted the fact that the NSP contested in Jalan Besar for the last two terms.

He had also said that the NSP had put in a lot of resources and effort in the constituency and had stepped up its ground activity since 2008 to prepare for this coming election.

The party has also decided not to contest Yuhua single member constituency.

But it is still interested in fielding a team in Marine Parade GRC and will announce its decision at a later date.
