In the midst of misappropriation of donations by charities and religious groups canvassing for donation to build super-grand mega churches, the Guan Yin Temple in Waterloo Street donation $2 million to NUS Medical School is a step very much appreciated .This donations will play a direct role in producing more Medical professionals in Singapore for the sake of all Singaporeans, regardless of race or religion.

ST Singapore, 11 April 2011 – The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, one of Singapore’s most
respected institutions, has today announced it is donating S$2 million to the Duke‐NUS
Graduate Medical School in Singapore (Duke‐NUS). Over the years, the Kwan Im Thong
Hood Cho Temple has consistently reached out to the needy. Its spirit of caring, compassion
and service to the society, is exemplified through its gifts to various charities, medical and
educational projects.
The S$2 million endowed gift will establish the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple
Scholarship Programme, which will further the education of all needy Singaporean students
pursuing the four‐year Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) programme at the Duke‐NUS medical
school, regardless of their religion.
At Duke‐NUS, about 30% of its students come from households with per capita income of
less than S$1,000 per month.
Said Dr Ranga Krishnan, Duke‐NUS’ Dean: “Our students come from some of the world’s
best universities including the National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological
University. These bright and capable individuals are single‐minded in their passion to serve
the people and to deliver the best medical care to patients. Duke‐NUS is very grateful to be a
recipient of the Temple’s generosity as the scholarships will go a long way towards helping
our students to fulfill their medical aspirations, and to make notable contributions to
society.”
Said Dr Tan Choon Kim, Chairman of the Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple, “The Temple
shares the values behind Duke‐NUS’ mission to transform medicine and to improve lives.
The Scholarships affirm the principles and values behind our beliefs. In helping to develop
promising medical students, the Temple will be able to bring comfort to the sick and
suffering as there will be more medical doctors to serve Singapore’s growing population.”
The Kwan Im Thong Hood Cho Temple’s gift will receive a one‐for‐one matching grant from
the Singapore government.

This is another slap to the face of a certain moron who claim that the poor will forever stay poor in SG. Just becoz a particular race here whom I shall not mention have a higher crime rate and lower education rate has nothing to do with the fact that they are poor. If they are willing to study, nothing is stopping them from climbing up via education.

You fucking idiot Char lAtan. The students there come from all over the world. What is the percentage of FTs in the 30% who come from families with income less than S$1000? S$1000 can be a king's ransom in some third world country, you dork! :oIo:

According to the article, the scholarships will be for NEEDY Singaporeans unless you are saying everyone lied. Anyway, I hope these doctors will know that their scholarship money comes from cleaners, waitresses, handphone salemen, prostitutes, loansharks etc etc

I hope you will use your brains and not be another idiot like Char lAtan. Don't you know that most of the FT students here on scholarships are given PRs and classified as Sinkies? The condition is that they work in Sinkieland for a certain number of years after graduation.

Now, I have no problems with allocating some scholarships to outstanding foreign students but there is something seriously wrong when the number of foreign students is almost equal to Sinkie-born Sinkie students.
