Low Thia Khiang agrees with Sylvia Lim that WP is not ready to govern Singapore

The Secretary-General of the Workers’ Party (WP) has agreed with the party chairman Sylvia Lim that it is not ready yet to form a government.

Ms Lim had admitted at a forum organized by the University of Singapore’s Political Science Alumni Association that the WP is not ready to form a new government and suggested that the other opposition parties are also not capable of forming one. [Workers’ Party questioned the ability of opposition parties to form a new government]

She had said at the forum that ”if Singaporeans were to throw out the PAP government, which other parties could come in and govern at this point in time?”

Ms Lim went on to concede that “The WP is not ready to do that now.”

She was later quoted by RazorTV as having said that while the WP has made progress in terms of membership volume, it is not ready to form a shadow cabinet as yet, especially one that is made up of experienced professionals who can look after public policies in all areas.

Such remarks, tentamounting to political-suicide may have dampened voter’s confidence in the WP, but speaking to reporters during his walkabout at the Bendemeer Market and Food Centre, Mr Low said he agreed with Ms Lim.

He said that “it is more important to be honest with voters than to over-promise… I am against all kinds of empty promises,” adding that he does not want to mislead the public into thinking that his party can deliver what it actually cannot.

Mr Low reiterated that the WP will definitely contest in the new Moulmein-Kallang GRC which the National Solidarity Party (NSP) is also eyeing, but NSP has agreed to make way to avoid a three-cornered fight if the WP fields an A-team comprising of either Mr Low or Ms Lim.

The Temasek Review learnt that the WP has been arrogant in horse- trading meetings and appeared reluctant to consider bilateral agreements with other parties to avoid three-cornered fights.

This has resulted in a possible three-cornered fight between the WP and Singapore Democratic Alliance (SDA) for Punggol East SMC, should further horse-trading talks fail.

No opposition party alone is ready to take over the country. Only crazy moronic Anti-PAP jokers thinks otherwise. The only way the opposition can take over the government is to form a coalition. Good luck trying to do that. They can't even seem to agree within their own party. In which case WP is going towards the right direction. They have grown a lot since LTK took over and by the look of things they have grown quite a bit since the last election. Pple need to understand that these things takes time. Sure they can't topple PAP this time, it doesn't mean that in another 2-3 elections down the road, they can't do it

Voters are smarter these days... whoever takes control will be able to attract "good" people into its fold... so if WP wins, u may see pple from other parties defecting... as long as price is right

Totally agreed. Singaporean need opposition that could work with PAP and create value for the people. Not just against because they are the opposition.

Opposition deserve full marks for honesty, and zero for brains.

PAP 1: Opposition 0

Opposition is not ready to govern S'pore is something that anyone got brains will know.
In fact, WP should score point as they are not giving empty promises.
Singaporean needs opposition that will work with PAP and create value for the people. Not opposition that give empty promises.

If WP tells us they are ready to govern S'pore, I will be very worried. They are being honest. And wise too. Some things you can con S'poreans, some things you just can't.

As the most credible opposition party, we need WP to attract talent. Who knows, when MM is gone, more able chaps will emerge. Many potential opposition chaps, for one reason or another, may be fearing a normal human being for nothing.

don't think any opposition is ready to form a government regardless of what they claimed... they need to groom and grow. I would be worried if majority of seats go to opposition due to some freak coincident; everyone thinking the other guy will vote pap, so it is fine they vote opposition to show their displeasure; that could be chaotic- like some greenhorn running country , would be a better if gradual and peaceful , is that really possible ?

This is not rocket science or quantum physics. There are some specialist areas, but it's mainly about common sense and judgement.

She should have replied that they may not have the necessary expertise and experience in governing SG. But they should be able to do a reasonable job with the required amounts of hard work and integrity.

Total honesty is not always the best policy. And this is not rocket science or quantum physics. There are some specialist areas, but it's mainly about common sense and judgement.

She should have replied that they may not have the necessary expertise and experience in governing SG. But they should be able to do a reasonable job with the required amounts of hard work and integrity.

You need to know what the ground actually want.

Singapore don't expect PAP to be replaced in this Election.

It is also clear the WP objective for the election is the win GRC.
The number of WP candidates contest in this election; even they win all sites will not make them the majority to lead Singapore.

Let be realistic. The fact is majority of voters are realistic.

Just look at what PAP is doing. PAP is know that WP is the main opposition challenge in this coming election.

Sad to see that other opposition parties don't see this, even create more hurdles to WP for them to challenge PAP.
