</noscript>54—year—old Dong Ching Jit, who is a deputy superintendent with the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA), faced 12 charges of taking bribes with amounts varying from S$5,000 to S$48,000 from a syndicate between December 2004 and April 2005. In return, Dong would extend the social visit passes of Chinese and Vietnamese nationals, who might not have qualified for such extensions. Dong committed the offences while he was performing the duties of customer services manager at ICA’s Visitor Services Centre. Investigations revealed that Dong would either grant the social visit pass extensions personally, or instruct his staff to do so. He has been suspended since March 2007. Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, Dong could be jailed for up to five years or fined up to S$100,000, or both, if convicted. Dong’s case has been fixed for a pre—trial conference on November 18. — CNA/vm

Under suspension but still receiving salary? Why is there no news about the syndicate? Why no arrest on the syndicate? Usually, it cost $300 to get an extension via a corrupt ICA officer. If this fella can take in so much money at one go then it must be a big syndicate.

IMO, the syndicate is also a big deveil and should face the law.

There is a lot of corruption in SG and especially at the ICA. This one kenna caught and there are still many others. 140K bribes but the maximum fine is only 100K. Whit ecollar crime really pays in SG.

The civil service is corrupt because the laws encourage them to be corrupt.

The sentence that this fella will get will be minimal. Maximum if 5 years. I think he will get away with two or three years at most and majority of his time will be home detention.

That could be their argument but the more important thing to point out is that there seem to be quite a number of such cases lately.

The demand is great and the money is easy. Almost 1K per day to do this simple task. Also, the officers under him that do the chop are also part of the corrupt practices. They must have known what is happening. There is every chance that a few or even all of them are in on the take.

Free sex and easy money is all there is to tempt these civil servants to commit crime.

The ICA is probaby the most corrupted agency in sinkapore if you look at the number of its officers who have been charged with corruption. And you can bet that there are even more and that the corruption continues until today.

These syndicates and even imdividual ICA officers know that it is easy money and it is very difficult to get caught unless someone paotoh. Plus the girls offer free sex and outings with a bunch of girls. These old cheekos cannot tahan the temptation easpecially when they go home and see their laukwaybu with a 46-inch waist stradling the couch with her pajama shorts and cheap singlet.

Compare that with sexy Viets and meimeis and the story comes to a quick end. It is like second tug at being youthful again and popular with the girls.

He gets 140K but I am certain that the amount is even more and at most he gets a 100K fine. By now, he has a lot of contacts overseas in Viet and probably already has a business there with one of the viet girls.

Crime pays for civil servants in sinkapore. Huat ah!

Do you know how much these ICA officers who do the stamping earn? Or those officers that man the checkpoints? My understanding is less than 1K after deducations. These people are primed to be bribed by their bosses!
