NTUC to distribute S$8m worth of vouchers to needy union members

</cite>SINGAPORE: The Labour Movement is distributing S$8 million worth of vouchers to help union members tide over the difficult times. More flexibility has also been injected into its criteria.

Firstly, there is no cap on the number of school—going children per family who can receive an education voucher. Secondly, families can now choose between a voucher to offset their public transport and a voucher for utilities spending. The National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) said eligible members can apply for two types of vouchers from November 3 to 16. The first is S$125 worth of Back to School vouchers for each school—going child, and the other is a choice of either a S$40 Public Transport voucher or a S$40 Utility voucher per family. To qualify, NTUC said members are to have a gross household income of S$1,800 and below, or a per capita income of S$500 and below. Ordinary Branch union members can apply directly to the respective unions that they belong to, while General Branch members can download the application form from www.ntuc.org.sg or obtain the form from the NTUC Customer Service Centre at the NTUC Centre — 1 Marina Boulevard, #B1—01, One Marina Boulevard. NTUC said the Back to School vouchers can be used to purchase textbooks, shoes, uniforms and other school—related items from bookshops and authorised suppliers at schools. There is also a Back to School Fair at Hougang Mall, Jurong East and Toa Payoh Central on December 6 and 7.
