Road bully jailed for causing hurt to motorcyclist

By Elena Chong

A HAWKER who punched a motorcyclist in a road rage incident was jailed for three weeks on Friday.

Lee Keng Leong, 53, admitted to causing hurt to Mr Janatulfirdauz Yusuf, 26, along Tampines Avenue 1 on Sept 7, 2009.

A court heard that Mr Janatulfirdauz was riding along the road when he noticed Lee's car swerving from one lane to another three times in a zig-zag fashion.

The car came to a stop abruptly at a yellow box, causing the motorcyclist to apply his brakes to avoid a collision.

The biker, who had initially wanted to overtake Lee's car, sounded the horn and gestured with his left hand upwards to ask what had happened. Lee gestured back in an aggressive manner.

At the traffic junction, Lee stopped his car very close to the biker and opened his door which hit the motorcycle.

Lee, who had difficulty getting out of the car, slammed his car door against the victim's motorcycle three times.

When Lee alighted, he shouted at the victim and asked why he had sounded the horn.

An argument ensued. A police officer in civilian clothing passing by in a motorcycle, tried to intervene.

Suddenly, Lee returned to his car and took an unknown object from the passenger's seat.

The cop then identified himself and asked Lee to remove the object from his pocket. He refused.

During an exchange between Lee and the victim, he threw a punch at the victim.

Lee could have been jailed for up to two years and/or fined up to $5,000 for causing hurt.
