S'pore Prisons' crack team takes third place in Mock Prison Riot competition

SINGAPORE : Singapore Prisons' crack team, SPEAR (Singapore Prisons Emergency Action Response Force), has clinched international honours at the Mock Prison Riot 2008 competition in the United States.

The unit of elite marksmen came in at third place at the competition.

SPEAR's new base within the Changi Prisons Complex was opened by Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs Masagos Zulkifli on Wednesday.

Among its new facilities is a mock prison housing unit for officers to practise their skills in a confined environment.

Mr Masagos noted that the new Changi Prison Complex's unique design and layout presented new challenges to SPEAR's operational responsiveness, and it would have to develop new capabilities to resolve incidents in the prisons at close proximity and at multiple tiers.

The new base also has a research centre to explore better approaches in security enforcement. -

Talk so much & brag so much, can someone from the Prisons Dept pls come out and explain why Mas Selamat can "limp" away so easily?

After watching "Lockdown" - I seriously doubt how this Spear team can stand up against those hardcore criminals as those in Lockdown in US.

hahaa... ya lor.. how MS can limped away so easily? got the honor so what? MS still get away...

but we still need insider from Changi Prison dept to come out for some clarification....

With universal rounds, everyone can be a rambo

Lucky for them only, they don't have to deal with the ultra hard core prisoners. Try pulling the same shit with MS-13, Aryan Brotherhood, Bloods, Crips and whatever assets the home team have with them in one confined space

maybe the reason why is because we don't have life imprisonment here - ie. imprisonment with no chance of parole...these are really the hardcore types...since there will never ever be the day that they will be released, they might as well raise havoc.
